What is Starlight Tarot?

Starlight Tarot is a free online tarot reading service you can enjoy right in your browser — no sign-up, no app, no payment. It uses the full 78-card deck in the Rider-Waite tradition, 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana, with carefully written upright and reversed interpretations for every card. The cards you draw and the questions you type are never stored anywhere — everything happens inside your browser, so read with peace of mind.

How it works

  1. Bring a question to mind — Picture what you want to ask, or type it in the box. The more specific the question, the clearer the cards' message: "What mindset do I need as I consider changing jobs?" works better than "Will things go well?"
  2. Choose a spread — Pick One Card for a quick message, Three Cards to see the flow, or the Celtic Cross to look deep into a situation.
  3. Pick your cards and read — From a freshly shuffled deck of 78, choose the cards your heart is drawn to, then flip them to reveal their meanings. You can save the result as an image or share it with friends.

Which spread should I choose?

Curious what each card means? The card meanings dictionary covers upright and reversed interpretations for all 78 cards. Every card — the 22 Major Arcana (from the Fool to the World) and all 56 Minor Arcana (like the Ace of Wands) — has its own in-depth page with the card's scene, symbolism, and love and career readings. For spreads and how to ask good questions, see the tarot reading guide.

Frequently asked questions

Q. Is it really free? Do I need an account?
Yes — every feature is free, with no sign-up, no app, and no payment. Open the site in your browser and draw cards right away, with no limit on readings.

Q. What are the interpretations based on?
All 78 upright and reversed interpretations were written in-house, grounded in the symbolism of the Rider-Waite deck — the de facto standard since 1909. We favor language that invites reflection over language that threatens or pronounces verdicts. You can read every card's text in the card meanings dictionary.

Q. Is a reversed (upside-down) card a bad omen?
No. A reversal is not "bad luck" — read it as the card's energy being blocked, turned inward, or in the process of releasing. The full reasoning is in our complete guide to reversed cards.

Q. The same card keeps showing up. Is that a coincidence?
Statistically, yes — Starlight Tarot reshuffles all 78 cards for every reading. But in tarot tradition, a card that keeps catching your eye is treated as a theme worth sitting with. Read that card's meaning slowly and look for where it overlaps with your life right now.

Q. Are my cards or questions recorded anywhere?
No. Your question and results are never sent to a server — everything is processed inside your browser and disappears when you close the page. If you want to keep a reading, use the "Save Image" button. Details are in our privacy policy.
